Portland & Multnomah County

Portland Business License Tax

If you operate a business within Portland city limits, you are required to register and file a Portland Business License Tax return annually. This applies to sole proprietors, LLCs, S-corps, and partnerships. Many business owners don't know this exists until they receive a notice.

Multnomah County Business Income Tax

Separate from the Portland Business License Tax, Multnomah County imposes its own Business Income Tax on businesses operating within the county. Both taxes are filed together through the City of Portland Revenue Division but are calculated separately.

TriMet Self-Employment Tax

Self-employed individuals with net earnings over $400 operating in the TriMet district are subject to the TriMet Self-Employment Tax. This is filed with your Oregon state return and is frequently overlooked.

Portland Arts Tax

Portland residents age 18 and older with income above the federal poverty level owe $35 annually in Arts Tax. It is filed separately from your income tax return. Simple, but easy to forget.
